MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee County Transit System is launching a new bus route to the new Amazon fulfillment center in Oak Creek.

Route 81, to be called "Amazon-Oak Creek," will start service on Oct. 11, operating seven days a week between the intersections of North 35th Street and West Fond du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee and South 13th Street and West Ryan Road in Oak Creek.

Buses will have stops on portions of West Fond du Lac Avenue, North 17th Street, West Walnut Street and North and South 6th Street.

Route 81 also connects with 16 existing MCTS bus routes: 12, 14, 19, 21, 22, 30, 31, 33, 35, 56, 57, 60, 80, GoldLine, BlueLine and PurpleLine.

The county says it has worked with Amazon to make sure people employed at the fulfillment center can get to work more easily.

Amazon began hiring at its new Oak Creek facility in August, and is set to open sometime this year.

“We know that lack of transportation is often a barrier for our residents, but with this new route, residents now have access to an exciting employment opportunity that would have
otherwise been out of reach. Making the necessary investments to ensure our residents can access opportunities is a key part of moving our County forward to achieve racial equity," Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley said in a news release.
