MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the assault of an Uber driver, after his passenger was arrested on the expressway.

Authorities say that a deputy patrolling the interstate stopped on I-94 West near 35th street about 1:15 a.m. Sunday to check on a vehicle that he thought was disabled.

When the vehicle was approached, the driver of an Uber vehicle stated he was assaulted by his passenger who just ran from the car, according to a department spokesperson.

After investigating, authorities determined that the suspect was seated in the front passenger seat and became upset when he did not agree with the route being used. A verbal exchange started which escalated to a physical one.

Investigators say that the man punched the driver in the face and grabbed and jerked the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to travel across other lanes of traffic.

The suspect was taken into custody on charges of Recklessly Endangering Safety, Battery, and Disorderly Conduct.
