A correctional officer has been arrested, accused of sexual assault, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said on Sunday.
The 25-year-old correctional officer has been with the sheriff's office since 2018, officials say.
A woman in custody reported the incident to the sheriff's office on Jan. 27. The correctional officer was arrested on Jan. 29 and is being held pending a review from the Milwaukee County DA's office.
“An allegation of this nature not only brings dishonor to the Sheriff’s Office and our profession but violates the public trust that we work so diligently to uphold. Our investigation and arrest affirm our commitment to the public that we hold ourselves to a higher standard and that conduct of this nature will not be tolerated," said Sheriff Earnell Lucas.
The investigation into the incident continues, officials said.
