"While I am withdrawing my name, it is my intention to hold those who are in the race accountable to the efforts that I believe will move this city forward. "
Hamilton was exploring the opportunity to run for mayor and filed paperwork for a possible run.
"This process has illuminated the fact that my desire to serve has never been about title or position," he said.
So far, there are two major candidates in the mayor's race: State Sen. Lena Taylor and Alderman Tony Zielinski. Mayor Tom Barrett has yet to officially announce whether he will run.
A primary election will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020. The general election is April 7.
