Milwaukee car salesman dragged by carjacker

Posted

A car salesman jumped into action and tried to stop thieves from taking a car off his lot - and it’s all caught on surveillance video.

Vicente Hernandez was showing a couple an SUV Tuesday around 7:30pm at Arandas Auto Sales on Milwaukee’s South Side when a van pulled up.

“One passenger got out of the car hopped in the GMC and tried to lock the doors,” said Vicente Hernandez, car salesman.

Hernandez tried stopping the thief near 27th Street and Forest Home Avenue.

“I went to punch the window. I shattered it and was able to hang onto the door handle while he drove off,” said Hernandez.

The salesman then got in another car and chased the driver.

“He almost hit a family on Lincoln street so I ended the pursuit there,” said Hernandez.

He’ll take the bruised fist, but if he had to do it again Hernandez wishes he would have called police instead of chased the driver.

“I had to stop it. I couldn’t see myself walking back into the business saying that someone stole the car without me not doing anything about it,” said Hernandez.

Hernandez said he saw one of the suspects come back again Wednesday morning. The dealership is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Police are looking for the suspect and the 2010 GMC Terrain.
