MILWAUKEE — In celebration of Veteran's Day Monday, the Milwaukee Bucks are hosting Hoops for Troops Week this week, presented by We Energies.
Starting Wednesday, Bucks guard Wesley Matthews and FOX Sports Wisconsin analyst Steve Novak will host a dinner for veterans who are currently enrolled in work therapy at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. The dinner will be at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Science Center.
Thursday, Wisconsin veterans who took part in this year's Stars and Stripes Honor Flight and active service members will be able to shoot around at the Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Science Center. All veterans and active service members who participate in the activities will get to attend Thursday's game against the Chicago Bulls.
The first 10,000 fans at Fiserv Forum for the game Thursday will receive a camo Bucks beanie. Additionally, 25% of proceeds from the 50/50 raffle will be donated to Jack Daniel's Operation Ride Home, which assists service members with holiday travels.
Sixty service members will hold an American flag, the St. John's Military Academy choir will sing the "Star Spangled Banner," there will be an Oath of Enlistment ceremony for 30 people, the Milwaukee Fire Department will hang an American flag between two firetrucks outside the arena and the 484th Army Band will perform at halftime.
The Bucks Pro Shop will also be selling apparel from the NBA's Hoop for Troops collection and '47 Bradn's Operation Hat Trick collection. Proceeds will be donated to organizations that support wounded service members and veterans. Veterans and active military personnel can save 10% on purchases at the Buck's Pro Shop year-round with a valid military ID.
