MILWAUKEE — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Tuesday night near 47th and Burleigh, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.
MPD said the shooting happened around 8:20 p.m. When officers arrived, they found the teen suffering from life-threatening injuries. He died on the scene.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the teen as J'Shyne Clemons-Madison.
His mother, Jasmond Clemons, told TMJ4 News her son was a homebody who would sit for hours at home and draw, mostly anime characters.
"My baby wasn't no angel, but he wasn’t no bad kid either. He just liked to chill. Very smart. Very intelligent. He was very good at drawing anime. So I tried to push him in something he liked, which was anime," Clemons said.
Clemons said her son never missed curfew, and when he didn't come home on Tuesday night, she went out searching for hours. Early Wednesday morning, she learned through social media that he'd been killed.
"You all gotta stop recording people dying. I had to find out my son was dead through Snapchat. Put your phones down, and call 911 or assist," she said.
Clemons said she hopes more parents take the time to find out where their kids are and what they're doing to avoid her pain.
"Put the guns down. I would never think it would hit home. And I try everything in my power to make sure my boys do not go down that road. I don't know what happened, but I do know the boys who did it — we will find you," said Clemons.
Police said the circumstances leading to the shooting are under investigation and the department is looking for unknown suspects.
