MILWAUKEE — One person was killed while riding an electric scooter Thursday night near 37th and Congress, Milwaukee Police confirm.

The police department said the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. when a 52-year-old man, who was on a scooter, was hit by a car. The medical examiner identified the victim as Robert Cocroft.

First responders were called to the scene but the man was pronounced dead before he could be taken to the hospital.

The driver who hit the man fled the scene without stopping, police said.

TMJ4 talked with one of Cocroft's close friends Friday.

"He was the most loyal friend you could have, the best friend you could have," Angel Sellers said.

Sellers said she and Cocroft had been friends since they were five.

"We grew up around the corner from each other. When I first found out, I was crying, but then when I got here I kinda calmed down a little bit because I could hear his voice," Sellers explained.

Sellers came out to 37th and Congress Friday morning to see where Cocroft was killed.

"This is a neighborhood. It's not like it's Capitol or Atkinson, this isn't even a two-lane street. Why are you speeding down here?," Sellers said.

Sellers said she believes Milwaukee drivers are out of control and seem to have no remorse for anyone on the road.

"He got kids, he got grand kids that's gonna miss him. Somebody needs to come forward," Sellers added.

Sellers, Cocroft's family and their friends all want answers.

"More people are gonna get hurt, more people are gonna die, and the next time it might be you," Sellers said.

Milwaukee Police said they have no leads on a description of the driver or car. Sellers said she believes someone in this neighborhood or nearby knows what happened and is asking for folks to come forward with information.
