Marquette University's Valley Fields will soon be getting a "warmer" upgrade this January.

The university plans to construct a seasonal dome over a portion of its Valley Fields facility, which is located across the street from the Potawatomi Hotel and Casino. The dome will cover the synthetic turf field adjacent to the stadium and will be up for five months of each year.

The addition will provide additional practice and training facilities for the Marquette's intercollegiate athletes and club/intramural participants.

"This project is a positive step forward as it will free up athletic space for both our intercollegiate athletes as well as many students who play intramural and club sports," said Bill Scholl, vice president and director of athletics. "As we continue to plan for our athletic performance research center, it was important that we take a more immediate step in meeting the demand of our increasingly active student body."

The university says construction will begin immediately and is expected to be completed by January 2016.
The addition is funded primarily by donors and Marquette's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
