Isaac Barnes, the man who killed 13-year-old Sandra Parks, has been sentenced to 51 years in Prison.
Sandra Parks death shook our city to the core. Just two years before her death, Parks won an essay contest for a piece she wrote on the need to end gun violence, the chaos she witnessed daily in Milwaukee, and how young people like her are the future. That essay has since been shared around the world and parts were repeated in court on Friday.
"My sister did not deserve this, and I just want to say she wrote that poem for a reason. A lot of kids are dying from these guns," Sandra's sister Tatiana Ingram said.
Barnes spoke briefly in court. He said that he never meant to kill Sandra. However, the judge pointed out that Barnes was out that night with an AK-47 and intended to kill someone else in that neighborhood.
