MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee man was shot by police officers on Tuesday, after they said he shot and killed a woman at a local Walgreens near 27th and North Avenue.

The shootings happened outside the pharmacy after 2 p.m. The woman shot and killed was an employee at the store, Walgreens said.

Brooklyn Baker heard the 51-year-old man and 48-year-old woman arguing just after she left the store.

I was getting in my car. I didn’t think it was that serious,” said Baker. “Some bickering. The lady was yelling at the man. Then the next thing I know the lady in the car next to me was like, ‘Oh my god, he got a gun, he got a gun.’”

Baker said she took cover, ducking down to try to hide in her car.

“It was so scary. That’s scary,” said Baker.

She said the man pointed his gun at the woman and then shot her three times.

“She was trying to get away from him. He shot her. She dropped,” said Baker.

Milwaukee Police said that the 51-year-old man killed the 48-year-old woman in a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Police Chief Alfonso Morales said officers arrived on scene after someone called 911 saying a woman had been shot.

“Next thing i know, police everywhere and shot him because he wouldn’t put his gun down,” said Baker. “They were telling him, ‘Drop the weapon and he would not drop the gun.’”

“The suspect did fire shots at the officers. And the officers returned fired striking that individual,” said Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales.

Baker said after everything she witnessed she is angry and heartbroken for the woman and her loved ones.

“He just didn’t care. It’s sickening. It’s sick,” said Baker.

Milwaukee Police say the suspect is expected to survive. The two officers who discharged their firearms are now on administrative leave as authorities their use of force.
