MILWAUKEE — An overnight crash shut down a highway ramp for most of Tuesday morning. It happened just after 3 a.m. on Interstate 94 near Hawley Road.

“It’s freaky because normally it’s a quiet neighborhood around here. We never have anything like this going on,” Marie Schauer said.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the Milwaukee Police Department made contact with occupants in another car. The passengers in that car said they saw a man abandon his car on the off ramp. He then went into a wooded area near the ramp and fired multiple shots at their car.

No injuries were reported, but bullets pierced the car. However, a K-9 search of the location by an assisting police department produced no results.

Marie and Jeff, who have lived in the area for almost 15 years, said they never had anything like this happen so close to home.

“This is all family owned with kids and everything around here. So, it’s just the riffraff that’s coming over this way,” Jeff Schauer said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating and looking for the alleged shooter.
