Major winter storm brings near blizzard conditions to southeast Wisconsin

Posted
and last updated

We're in the midst of a major winter storm. After a constant heavy snow through the night, we may see some breaks in the snow this morning. Look for snow to be on and off, but still with some heavier bursts through the day. Wind will gust over 35 mph at times. This may create near blizzard conditions at times. Travel is not advised. Total snow by this evening should range from nine to 13 inches for most of SE Wisconsin. Snow ends this evening but we'll continue to see a lot of blowing snow tonight. Temperatures fall to around zero with wind chills well below zero.

Now comes the arrival of brutal and potentially record breaking cold. Actual temperatures fall below zero through the day on Tuesday. Wind chill will fall into the 20s and eventually 30s below zero. The peak of the cold arrives Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Lows Wednesday night will fall into the -20s and maybe even -30 in spots. The wind chill will fall into the -50s. This is very dangerous cold. It is not advised to be outside at all.
