Madison hospital ranked as 17th best in nation

MADISON — The University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison was ranked the 17th best facility in the nation by U.S. News and World Reports.

The hospital features Wisconsin's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center with the UW Carbone Cancer center. It specializes in more than 25 different types of cancer treatment.

According to U.S. News UW Hospitals ranks in the top 25 in the nation for urology, orthopedics, gynecology, geriatrics, and cardiology & heart surgery. Among the highlights of University Hospital are its pediatric and adult trauma centers, a burn center, a transplant program, and a stroke center.

U.S. News evaluated around 5,000 hospitals on 16 different medical specialties, nine adult medical procedures or conditions and 10 pediatric specialties. The top hospital was the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
