Locals upset over graffiti at South Milwaukee trail

A worker with Milwaukee County Parks on Saturday afternoon began the process of cleaning up graffiti at the iconic Seven Bridges Trail.

Neighbors said they discovered the graffiti early Saturday morning on the bridge and pavilion at the trail's entrance, and even on some nearby trees.

"It's just very disappointing," said Lisa Love-Hoffert.

She said she walks the trail roughly twice a month.

"I would like to see this all gone within the next week," she said.

The Milwaukee County Parks employee who TODAY'S TMJ4 spotted cleaning off much of the graffiti said county officials would have to determine if the bridge and pavilion also need to be re-painted. If that's the case, he said it's likely it would happen quickly.

South Milwaukee Police said they take any vandalism, like Saturday's graffiti, seriously and will investigate.

Jeanne Bell, who walked the trail with her three young children Saturday, said the offensive graffiti was damaging to the experience.

"I come here frequently with my family. We revere this as a beautiful place," Bell said. "So it says something about the ignorance and hatefulness of the person responsible that they would come to a place we're all supposed to enjoy and ruin it for everyone."
