MILWAUKEE -- Within hours of a Milwaukee police officer's death in a rollover crash Thursday evening, tributes from local police departments began to pour in.

One police officer was killed and one was hospitalized in the incident on the city's northwest side Thursday evening.

It happened just after 5:00 p.m. near at the intersection of N. 76th St. and W. Silver Spring Dr. Footage from Chopper 4 shows heavy damage to the squad car, which rolled off the road until it was wedged near an overpass.

It's the first death in the line of duty for one of MPD's officers in 22 years.

The Glendale Police Department shared an image of a MPD badge with the caption "RIP Brother. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten."

The Germantown Police Department offered an image of a police officer kneeling in grief, with no caption:
