'Keep your parkas out until July:' Winter makes surprising return to SE Wisconsin

Year after year in Wisconsin, when the calendar says spring, residents like to forget that the weather doesn’t always follow the rules.

Within 24 hours Milwaukee went from bright blue skies to snow-covered grass.

It seemed spring finally arrived, but Mother Nature had other plans.

“It’s insane is what it is,” Cedarburg resident, Rochelle McInerney said.

“I thought we were done with the snow but here we are,” Milwaukee resident, Robin Dean said.

Kelly Johnson from Mukwonago wasn’t having it.

“Winter’s coming back saying ‘and another one, like here’s another joke,’” Johnson said. “I thought we were completely done. All my sweaters are packed away. I was about to plant all my plants outside and I’m very glad I didn’t because they would be dead.”

By the time we hit April 27, one would think we’d be in the clear, at least that’s what Jennifer Kapper thought. She planned her trip from Tampa expecting it would be warmer now.

“My lips are going to fall off,” Kapper said.

However, here in Wisconsin with rain, snow or sleet, the show goes on.

A bridal party was out in the Third Ward taking photos.

TODAY’S TMJ4 even caught a couple of runners like Katelyn Rowley, braving the elements out on the city’s east side.

“Gotta get your workout in. It’s better than the treadmill,” Rowley said.

Dozens of others were out in the snow on bar patios off Brady Street.

While the weather may not be ideal, it comes with the territory.

“Keep your parkas out until July just in case because you never know,” Johnson said.

She just prays that doesn’t happen.

“I hope so or I’m out of here,” she said.
