Pewaukee native and Houston Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt received a huge honor at the Baylor College of Medicine for his work after Hurricane Harvey last fall.

“I’ve had a lot of big dreams in my life, but not even I dreamt that I could one day become a Doctor. I am truly humbled and honored to receive the degree of Doctor of Humanities in Medicine from the Baylor College of Medicine!” Dr. Watt wrote on Twitter.

The college said Watt along with Dr. David Persse received Doctors of Humanities in Medicine for their work during the hurricane.

Watt ran a fundraising and supplies gathering operation in both Pewaukee and Houston to help those affected by the storm, raising more than $37 million.

Watt played for the Wisconsin Badgers before he was drafted into the NFL. He is currently in his eighth season in the league.
