MILWAUKEE — One of the iconic staples of Marquette University, McCormick Hall, will be demolished beginning in May.

According to Marquette University's Facebook page, "the demolition of McCormick Hall is part of the university's Campus Master Plan." The master plan is the road map to new buildings, better education and financial priorities for the university.

McCormick Hall, often referred to as the "Beer Can," opened in 1967 and closed after the 2018 school year. It has housed thousands of Marquette freshmen.

Once the demolition is complete in November, the site will be graded and turned into green space until a project for the site is approved.

An event celebrating the legacy of the dorm will occur during commencement week in mid-to-late May.

Currently, most Marquette freshmen live in the university's new dorm: The Commons.
