MILWAUKEE — Dozens of people protested Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and border detention centers Thursday by blocking vehicle exits at a federal office building in Milwaukee.
Beginning shortly after 9 a.m., community members began blocking the garage doors of the Milwaukee Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in an act of civil disobedience to prevent ICE agents from leaving to carry out enforcement actions.
The group eventually took to the streets, marching through Milwaukee for several hours to promote its cause.
“This is an act of remembrance," said former Wisconsin State Rep. Sandy Pasch. "Never Again in 2019 means we demand that the Trump Administration shut down ICE, and provide permanent protection for all undocumented immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers,” Pasch said.
Protesters were joined by U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore along with representatives from Milwaukee's Voces de la Frontera.
