MILWAUKEE — A string of recent home break-ins has left one south side neighborhood shaken.
“I was in shock, I was scared, I was petrified [I] didn't know what I was walking into. I never expected something like this to happen," Tina Mendez, a victim of a burglary, said.
Mendez said her home near Honey Creek and Ramsey was burglarized two weeks ago. The thief took off with rifles, her camera equipment, and her husband’s wedding ring.
“I’m praying it will come back, it’s all memento stuff,” Mendez said.
Mendez said police told her there was another burglary in the area prior to her’s. Then, on Tuesday, the apartment building next door to Mendez was also hit —this time the thief stole jewelry and a little girl’s piggy bank.
“Who steals someone’s piggy bank I mean for change,” JJ Wehril, a neighbor, said.
JJ Wehrli lives under the burglarized apartment and was able to capture this picture of the alleged thief. He said he knows the piggy bank money is long gone, but he’s collecting donations to give to his young neighbor.
