WEST ALLIS — Get ready for an explosion of chocolaty deliciousness. Things are blowing up at Freese's Candy Shoppe in West Allis.

It's an explosive eat called hot chocolate bombs, and they have been flying off the shelves.

"So we take our chocolate hand-molded into a round sphere. Fill it with some hot cocoa mix, some marshmallows. Seal them up, and then drizzle them with our white chocolate," Wendy Matel, the owner of Freese's Candy Shoppe said.

Just pour hot water or milk over the ball and you'll begin to see marshmallows burst out of the melting chocolate.

Matel said customers began calling about it, and so she decided to give them a try. She is happy she did because they are one of the hottest items in the store.

"Some people, you know, are taking two, three dozen, so it’s been a very popular item," Matel said.

Each one is $6.95 or if you buy a dozen, you get a slightly discounted price. They also have hot chocolate gift baskets that include multiple treats plus a snowman mug.

It's the beginning of the holiday season, which means tons of holiday food. Why not start off with something new you may not have had before. Especially in 2020, we all know we could use some sweets in our lives.

"You know people aren’t able to travel. They aren’t able to do many things, and I feel like this is something that makes them happy," she said.

Remember to shop local this holiday season too!
