A simple four-word post changed the lives of Wisconsin educators and students yet again: "You just got funded."
Businessman, philanthropist, former Democratic Senator, former Bucks owner and Milwaukee native Herb Kohl announced the gift during National Teacher Appreciation Week.
The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation paid $425,000 total across Wisconsin, funding teacher's projects on DonorsChoose.org. According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, the funding went to 578 teachers in 359 different schools for a total impact on 51,379 students.
"What teachers do every day for students inspires me to provide this support," Kohl stated.
Additionally, Kohl announced a matching-grant opportunity. This grant is for social-emotional learning projects that help students become "happy and connected members of their communities."
The money will help purchase classroom supplies and other materials that teachers often have to fund out-of-pocket. The foundation will match support for these projects, 2-to-1, providing up to $75,000.
The Herb Kohl Educational Foundation has been around since 1990. This is the foundation's third year funding teachers' requests on DonorsChoose.org.
