Ex-Milwaukee police officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown was acquitted of homicide charges Wednesday in the shooting death of  Sylville Smith last summer, but he still faces sexual assault charges from an unrelated incident.

The case is not connected to the events in Sherman Park last August, but it is the case that got Heaggan-Brown fired from the MPD.

Last October Heaggan-Brown was charged with five counts related to sexual assaults in December of 2015 and the summer of 2016.

He faces two counts of second degrees sex assault, two counts of prostitution and another charge for recording a sex act on his phone without consent.

Those charges came after an alleged victim complained to the MPD and the department launched an internal affairs investigation.

The trial starts Aug. 21.
