MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A coalition of liberal-leaning groups and advocates for people with disabilities is filing a lawsuit seeking to void laws passed during a lame-duck legislative session called by Wisconsin Republicans.
The group's attorney Jeffrey Mandel said a lawsuit would be filed Thursday morning in Dane County Circuit Court.
The coalition argues that lawmakers illegally convened the session last month to take up the bills.
The groups filing the lawsuit are the League of Women Voters, Disability Rights Wisconsin, Black Leaders Organizing for Communities and three Wisconsin voters.
Separately, a paralyzed Democratic state representative is filing a complaint Thursday with the Dane County district attorney seeking to void the lame-duck action, arguing that GOP leaders broke the open meetings law by not saying when the vote would take place.
