GREENFIELD, Wis. — A chase ended almost as quickly as it started in Greenfield after the suspect's vehicle pulled out in front of police.

It happened Monday evening nears 84th and Layton Avenue. Greenfield Police say a group robbed the Kohl's store and then drove off, pulling onto 84th Avenue in front of a police vehicle.

A police dash camera shows officers pursue the SUV. The whole chase lasted 47 seconds. The SUV ran a red light and then a PIT maneuver was used against it by another squad in the area.

"We had a squad right there that got right behind it. We had an opportunity to PIT the car. We did it right away and stopped it at 84th and Forest Home and we took all four subjects into custody," said Sgt. Daniel Orlowski.

The thieves came from the Kohl's store on Layton with clothes and jewelry.

"Literally grabbing stuff off the racks and running. They took over $3,700 in merchandise," said Orlowski.

This is not the first chase for Greenfield this month. We checked our reports, this is the fourth pursuit in four weeks.

Before Monday night's chase, officers chased a vehicle onto I-43 Sunday. It ended in rollover and four people arrested.

September 5th, a chase ended in a crash on Layton and 13th Street. August 14th, Greenfield chased a vehicle into Milwaukee but the suspect got away at 33rd near Auer Avenue.

"Unfortunately, we do get into quite a bit of pursuits," said Orlowski. "It seems like maybe every week or two we are getting into one."

Greenfield Police say despite these pursuits ending in crashes, they have no plans stop.

"The message we would like to send is we take these crimes seriously and we will chase you," said Orlowski.
