GREENFIELD — A person of interest has been detained in relation to the stabbing that happened on South 60th Street and Armour Avenue on Tuesday, according to Greenfield Police.
"This incident is tragic. It's random at this point. No fight, no conflict, this is just a random act," said Jay Johnson, Greenfield's chief of police.
Police were called to the scene just after noon after reports of an "assault with an edged weapon," according to a news release. The victim was conveyed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died.
Prior investigations led officers to a person of interest, according to Johnson.
While there seems to no longer be a threat to the community, Greenfield Police encourage the public to stay vigilant and contact the department with any information that may be helpful in this investigation.
This is an ongoing investigation. Stay tuned to TODAY'S TMJ4 for more information.
