A 34-year-old Milwaukee man has been taken into custody after attempting to carjack the owner of Jen's Sweet Treats outside her store.

The owner, Jennifer Clark, and a 75-year-old man are recovering from injuries after the attempted carjacking in front of the Cudahy dessert shop.

Police say the suspect battered the elderly man while he was waiting on the bus. He later injured Clark while attempting to pull her from her vehicle.

I'm tough I will heal. I ask everyone to please pray for the elderly gentleman who was attacked by the same person just before me.

A good Samaritan stepped in and "physically detained" the suspect until police arrived to the scene.

"We don't necessarily recommend that people attempt to subdue violent, assaultive criminals, but in this circumstance, the Good Samaritan's heroic actions probably saved other innocent people from being victimized," said Cudahy Police Chief Thomas Poellot.

Upon arrest, the suspect struck one officer in the face and kicked another. Neither officer required medical attention.

Both victims were treated at St. Lukes South Shore.

Police will be recommending federal charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

Clark is well-known for her constant outpouring of support to first responders and other people in need in surrounding communities through her love of baked goods.
