Cyclists will be getting on their bikes Saturday and raising money for childhood cancer research, though they won't actually be going anywhere.
CycleBar locations in Wisconsin are hosting Cycle For Gold events to support a non-profit founded by an 11-year-old.
Annie Bartosz lost her twin brother Jack to cancer seven years ago. Now she's starting her senior year of high school, and still, missing her brother.
"It's bittersweet," Annie said of the big weekend ahead. "I miss him, and I wish he was here, but Gold in September came from the battles that he faced."
Gold in September, or G-9 as Annie calls it, ties in the color for childhood cancer, gold, and the ninth month of the year, which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
She founded G-9 soon after her brother’s death.
"After my brother passed away, I didn’t want other families to feel the heartache my family felt," Bartosz said. "I just thought, I don't want someone else to have to go through this. I wish there were better resources, better options available for my family."
In support of the mission, CycleBar will host a series of rides at all it's Wisconsin locations this Saturday. Click here for times and sign-up information.
