I grew up in Kenosha, Wis. and my childhood home sits in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to Lance Middle Scool.
The home means the world to me because my parents worked countless hours of overtime to make sure we had a roof over our heads.
During my visit, I found an old neighbor, Ned Schmidkonz. He said many of the people still live in the area.
"A few people have changed in the neighborhood, but you know Mr. and Mrs. Woods are still there," said Ned.
To me, this is what made my neighborhood special, not the location but instead the people who looked out for one another.
