Get ready for another zipper merge

and last updated

Yet another zipper merge will begin in the Zoo Interchange starting this weekend.

For those in Greenfield, West Allis, and drivers traveling northbound on I-894 beginning this Saturday, April 16th at 6:00 a.m. three lanes will be reduced down to two from National to Greenfield Avenue.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says on top of the zipper merge, four entrance ramps on I-43 and I-894 will be closed as well.

On ramps at 108th Street in the Hale Interchange, National Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, and Greenfield Avenue will all be closed for the remainder of the merge's construction project.

This Zipper Merge Project will not re-open, DOT says, until later this year. The suggested alternate route is to exit I-894 at either Beloit Road or National Avenue, travel north on Highway 100, then use the entrance ramp for Watertown Plank Road to continue northbound on I-41.

If you'd rather take your chances on I-894, DOT says it's important to utilize all lanes of traffic until the merge area, then take turns merging like a zipper.
