GERMANTOWN -- Germantown Police are investigating a threat at Kennedy Middle School.

Officers arrived at the school before the buses rolled in early Friday morning.

"This is just precautionary. It's for a sense of presence. It's to stop insecurity," said Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell.

That anxiety was coming from worried parents and students after school leaders said a student made a threat on campus Thursday afternoon.

"When things of this nature occur, we want to make sure our parents and students are aware of what happened and provide for rumor control so I send out an email to parents," said Jeff Holmes, the superintendent of the Germantown School District.

That email went out late Thursday night. It said moments after a group of students got into a fight, one student made a threat.

"Because of the word choices of this student, it led us to take this action," Holmes said.

Tiffany Schuster is a parent of a student at Kennedy.

"I'm glad they're taking these precautions," she said. "We received an email last night and I'm glad they're taking those precautions."

School leaders said the student who made the threat was not in school Friday. They will not say if he will be suspended or expelled.
