THIENSVILLE — A fundraiser for a favorite Thiensville restaurant has more than doubled its fundraising goal.
The Cheel, at 105 S. Main St., suffered heavily in a fire on Nov. 8, as did the nearby home of a couple.
But now, a fundraiser on Facebook has raised $23,000 - $13,000 more than the fundraiser's goal, and there are six days left before the Facebook fundraiser concludes.
The organizers of the fundraiser say they not only consider The Cheel "our favorite restaurant," but felt compelled to help a business that also suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The organizers add that before the fire struck, the owners of the business hoped to use their savings on a remodeling and expansion project. That dream was dashed by the unexpected fire, whose source investigators have not uncovered.
The fundraiser was given approval by the owners of The Cheel, the organizers say, and all money raised will go to them and their restaurant.
"Please give what you can. Times are tough for many currently so please know your donations (and shares) are truly appreciated," according to the fundraiser page on Facebook.
A GoFundMefundraiser has raised more than $6,000 for the couple who lost their home in the same fire.
