FRANKLIN — Sophia Vitas, a graduate of Franklin High School, had a goal of being selected to the U.S. Women's Olympic Rowing Team in 2020, but the coronavirus quickly put those plans on hold.
The Olympics were postponed due to the virus. The 2020 games will now happen in Tokyo in 2021.
"What steps they're going to take now will depend on the official date when the Olympics will start," said Vitas.
Vitas said she remains dedicated to training and focused on making the team.
"The goal remains the same. Obviously, we have another year to get faster and fitter and stronger," said Vitas."I’m pretty grateful to be training with the women that I am."
Sophia said the decision to cancel the summer games was wise.
"I think it's just going to create a more level playing field," said Vitas.
She hopes to learn more about the qualification process in the coming weeks.
