KENOSHA — A former Kenosha principal is charged with sexually assaulting a student. He is currently principal just over the border in Illinois.
Curtiss Tolefree was principal at Washington Middle School last year. This school year he moved on to an elementary school in Zion, Illinois.
He is now charged with sexually assaulting a student more than a decade ago. Court records show Kenosha Police started investigating Tolefree in October 2018.
A victim identified as "Jane Doe" told detectives she had sex with the then-school dean in his office at Bradford High School "...just about every day at school her junior year" in 2008 and 2009.
Police say the sexual assaults stopped when Tolefree received a promotion to become assistant principal at Washington Middle School.
We knocked on Tolefree's last known address to get his side of the story. No one came to the door.
The Kenosha Unified School District spokeswoman sent us this statement:
The district is aware of the allegations being made about a former employee of KUSD. The allegations were brought to our attention by local law enforcement with whom we have and will cooperate with as needed.
Tolefree is not in police custody. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on five different criminal charges next month.
