The Fond du Lac County Health Department says they received a report of mumps in a child who attends Jesus Little Lambs Childcare in Fond du Lac. Officials with the department confirm the child is under 2 years old and did get a first dose of the mumps vaccine.
The Fond du Lac County Health Department released a letter on Wednesday addressed to parents stating that the facility doesn't have a record that their child has received the MMR vaccine.
The letter states that the best way to protect against mumps disease is the Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine. It added that a child attending Jesus Little Lambs Childcare can not return to the childcare center until he/she has received one dose of MMR vaccine or the incubation period time between July 10 thru July 23 has passed.
The MMR vaccine is given in doses. The first dose is recommended when children are 12 - 15 months old and the second dose can be given after age four.
NBC26 has reached out to Jesus Little Lambs Childcare and is waiting for a response to the letter.
Below are two letters forwarded to NBC26. The Mumps Exposure Notice was sent to everyone at the facility. The Mumps Exclusion Notice was sent to parents who don't have a record of immunizing their child with the MMR vaccine on file at the childcare facility.
