BROWN COUNTY — A nationwide network of identity thieves strikes again in Wisconsin, this time near the Green Bay area.
Now the Brown County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman it believes to be a part of the "Felony Lane Gang." Just last week she allegedly hit four Nicolet National Bank branches, walking away with thousands of dollars.
According to police, members of the group go around cashing fake checks, using the farthest bank drive-through lane to avoid being seen up close. New photos from the Brown County Sheriff's Office show a woman allegedly doing just that.
“They usually are operating in vehicles with stolen license plates,” Lt. Charles Aagaard said.
In this most recent case, the bank suffered a total estimated loss of $13,000. This string of identify thefts has been linked to women all over Wisconsin attempting to cash fake checks in Brown County, Janesville, Delavan, Madison, Brookfield, Muskego, Racine and the greater Milwaukee area.
TODAY'S TMJ4 spoke to Janesville Police earlier this month after another string of thefts happened there, and they said it only takes a split second for these thieves to steal your wallet or purse, preying on women in busy parking lots or the gym.
“They will take the identification, personal items, credit cards, or what have you and they will try to get cash at a local bank,” Aagaard said.
This alert is being issued statewide. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to call them.
