MILWAUKEE — A family of four, including two children are now recovering at home after they were victims of a hit-and-run on Saturday night near Fiserv Forum.
This incident marks the fourth hit-and-run in Milwaukee that injured children in the past several weeks. Investigators are still searching for the suspect and vehicle involved, a silver Chevy Malibu with Texas license plates. Police believe that the plate might include the letters 'KCV.'
The Eager family arrived in Milwaukee excited to see “Jurassic World,” at Fiserv Forum, but they never made it inside.
Danielle, her husband Tony, and their boys, 5-year-old Dayton and 8-year-old Brayson were crossing the street at the intersection of 6th Street and Juneau about 6 p.m. Saturday. The silver Chevy Malibu was turning left and hit them before quickly taking off.
TODAY’S TMJ4 spoke with Danielle, who said that they’re shaken up and trying to understand what happened.
While she wasn't ready to talk on camera, Danielle spotted the car coming and pushed her kids out of the way, ending up on the hood of the vehicle. She ended up falling off as her husband ran after the car. Thankfully, the family's injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
On Sunday, more families were back at the intersection heading to another showing of “Jurassic World," at Fiserv Forum. But this time, holding little loved ones extra close.
Elyse Hahn was one of those moms.
“It’s so sad that we’re losing kids and that they’re getting hurt,” Hahn said.
Kelly Hudson of Milwaukee, felt the same way.
“This is out of control and we have to get a handle on it,” Hudson said.
After this latest incident they also realized no community is immune to reckless driving, including Downtown Milwaukee in Alderman Bob Bauman’s district. The alderman said that next year’s budget will give them funds to reconfigure city streets and hopefully curb the problem.
“Add pedestrian warning lights and add additional traffic signals, and in some cases actually narrow roadways to reduce speed,” Alderman Bauman said.
A spokesperson for Fiserv Forum released the following statement about the incident:
"Our thoughts are with the family that was injured in the hit-and-run crash. We continue to work closely with the city, the MPD and the DPW to make that intersection safer."
This incident was just the latest of several hit-and-runs involving Milwaukee children in two weeks. On Thursday, a 13-year-old boy was hit and injured near 68th and Congress. Police are still searching for a suspect in that incident.
On Monday, two little boys were hurt in a hit-and-run while crossing the street near the intersection of Teutonia and Florist. The driver later turned himself in and has was charged in Milwaukee County. Back on October 24, two girls were struck and killed by a car near the intersection of 22nd and Center. Their cousin was also injured, but survived.
