MILWAUKEE — The family of a man who was shot and killed inside of a business near the intersection of 46th and Burleigh is pleading for justice.

Investigators with the Milwaukee Police Department are working to determine the circumstances of the shooting. Authorities say that they responded to the scene just after midnight on Sunday.

While police haven't released the name of the victim, family identifies him as 43-year-old Romeal Oquin. His family says that he leaves behind seven siblings, parents and a significant other.

"He was a good guy, very generous too," said Oquin's brother, Neil. "It's just so sad that it had to happen. It was too close to home."

Family doesn't know many details, but police believe the shooting happened after an argument.

"This isn't what we want out of life," said Oquin's aunt, Leisa Sanders. "No one should have to bury their child. This violence needs to end," she said.

Family and friends gathered for a vigil outside of a neighborhood bar near 46th and Burlieigh on Sunday night.

"This means that I can't break, because if I break there's no one to help them," Sanders said. "So I have to hold up my end and keep them together," she said.

Oquin's death comes at a particularly tough time for the family.

"His mother is a little sick," Sanders said. "She got stage 4 cancer right now, and she don't need no stress on her heart. She never would have thought that something like this would happen," she said.

The family is asking for the suspect to come forward.

"The person who did that, if that human being got any type of heart, turn yourself in," Neil said.
