Families without AC in Milwaukee get ready for heat wave

MILWAUKEE — The heat is on in the city and it's only going to get worse. Tough news for families around Milwaukee living without air conditioning.

"It is hot, very hot," said Doug Davis living in Riverwest.

"You do what you can opening windows and what not. But at a certain point there is nothing," said Steve Bertelsen who does not have AC.

People are getting out of their homes to avoid the heat.

"I just looked at the thermostat and it's 87 inside and its 78 outside right now. So it's actually hotter inside than outside," said Davis.

WE Energies has some good recommendations for people without air conditioning including pull the shades, avoid using the oven or dryer and use a fan at night to draw in cooler air.

"You can always do an old school air conditioner. You can get a bag of ice or freeze a block of ice. Put it in a bowl and put in front of a fan. It seems really, really old but it works. It is going to be blowing air around your house," said Brendan Conway of WE Engergies.

People know they are in for a very sticky stretch.

"Lots of water. Keep hydrated is all I can say," said Davis.
