The Elmbrook School District is investigating sexual assault allegations against a former teacher who taught in the district for more than 30 years.

According to Superintendent Dr. Mark Hansen, a former student sent an email alleging they had been assaulted during the 1980s by Gary Blaschke, a veteran teacher at Burleigh Middle School and Brookfield East High School. According to Hansen, preliminary investigations show that over the course of several years Blaschke sexually abused the then-minor in the 1980s.

"This is not in dispute," said Hansen. "These findings tarnish our district, and because we failed this student, we have to take responsibility for our former employee's actions."

Blaschke retired from Brookfield East in 2002 and most recently worked as a substitute teacher and at athletic events throughout the district. His employment was suspended as of April 1, and his network and email access have also been disabled. He is ordered to remain off any school district property until further notice.

The Elmbrook School District is asking anyone with additional information or was also harmed by Blaschke to contact Hansen at 262-373-6606 or the Brookfield Police Department 262-787-3614.
