A Walworth County high school was evacuated Monday and a bomb squad was called in to investigate an unknown substance that found in an East Troy High School student’s locker.

Law enforcement cleared the scene shortly after noon. However, as of Monday night, the East Troy School District hadn’t told TODAY’S TMJ4 what substance was found.

Police left East Troy High School with bags of evidence before teachers and staff were able to return Monday afternoon. Sophomore Devin Rutzen said the evacuation announcement went out over the intercom around 8:00 a.m.

“It was like, ‘Oh great another evacuation two months into school,’” Rutzen said.

While it didn’t scare Rutzen, others said they were on edge as everyone was rushed outside.

“I’m just glad we got outside because my legs were shaking for like 5 minutes,” said freshman Kaleb Wachal.

Students were sent home for the day as police and sheriff’s deputies investigated a suspicious and unknown substance inside a glass jar, in a student’s locker.

“I was a little worried, I had no idea what was going on,” Wachal said.

East Troy Police said information about the incident had to come from the school district. The district remains mum about a number of important details including what substance was found and whether anyone is in custody.

The district said school will likely be back in session on Tuesday.
