MILWAUKEE — Early voting is now underway in the City of Milwaukee and across Southeast Wisconsin.

You can cast your ballot in six different locations in the city. They include the new Capitol Drive voting center. The Good Hope, Tippecanoe, Washington Park, Zablocki Library, and the Zeidler Municipal Building are open as well.

The location at 60th and Capitol in the heart of the Northside opened it's doors for the first time Tuesday morning.

“I caught the bus down here and I got off on 60th and then I seen all the signs," early voter, Sherri Reed explained.

Reed said the new location is simply more accessible. Especially for people who take the bus.

"It's more convenient because I only had to catch one bus down here, straight down,” Reed said.

This new voting center replaces the well-known Midtown Shopping Center location. A spot known to draw in thousands of voters.

However, Reed feels safer at this new spot. "It's like a nice area. Because Midtown there was a lot of a lot of riff-raff over there,” she explained.

Since this is a new location, the election commission had signs posted on and around the building so voters knew where to go.

"I love the signs; they give you directions. So, it’s easy to find,” early voter Rose Lane explained.

For 22 years, Lane has casted her vote early on the northside. "I'm glad somewhere was open for me to come cast my vote. Like I said, I'm an early voter. I don't want to wait until the last minute to get my vote in,” she explained.

Lane is grateful a new location was opened and Tuesday afternoon she reflected on why she always casts a ballot.

"Because I think about my mother, she was born in 1932 and I think about her right. She had to fight for her right to vote. And I was thinking about how she casts her first ballot. And she was like baby out and vote. Go out there and do it,” Lane explained.

Details on when the early voting locations are open can be found here.
