MANITOWOC, Wis-- A man is safe after rescuers were able to talk him down from a tower.
Officers in Manitowoc were called to the 900 block of Hancock Street just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, for a person climbing the communications tower next to the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center.
When officers arrived, a 40-year-old man continued to climb the tower and threatened to jump.
The tower is about 150 feet tall. A tower rescue team from the Appleton Fire Department was called in to assist.
The man made threats that he had a weapon in his possession, and due to safety concerns, the tower rescue unit was not able to immediately get him down from the tower.
Around 2 a.m. Thursday, crisis negotiators convinced the man to climb down. He was taken into protective custody and brought to a local hospital where he was treated for prolonged exposure to the cold.
This incident is being referred to the Manitowoc County District Attorney’s Office for review of the charges of Disorderly Conduct and Criminal Trespass possibly being filed against the man.
