Milwaukee County officially charged a man Thursday with sexually assaulting a four-year-old at a Milwaukee County Park.
Court documents say Daniel Mangert tried to kill himself after the incident at Humboldt Park.
The boy's family was at the Humboldt Park Beer Garden over the weekend.
Gina Daddio grew up in the neighborhood and now brings her kids to the park.
"It's just so disturbing," she said.
The criminal complaint explains the child's mother was helping his hurt sister when he asked to go to the bathroom. It says she tried to counsel him where to go when Mangert interjected and "kept insisting on showing [the boy] where the men's bathroom was."
The documents describe the boy's mother going to check on him, but he didn't respond. She asked another man who came out to look for him.
According to the complaint, the man saw Mangert leave the stall with the four-year-old and was "suspicious of the observation."
Investigators later learned from the child that the man forced oral sex on him. The mother confronted the man and he fled on a bike.
"Their parents put a lot of trust to send them into a bathroom by themselves and then somebody breaks that trust," Daddio said.
Court documents reveal Mangert tried to kill himself after that interaction. They also said the boy shared what happened with his father, saying he had a "secret."
"Imagine what that little boy's going to have to deal with for the rest of his life. I really do hope that this individual gets the full extent of the law," said Daddio.
Mangert was convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 2005. He just went off probation for that offense a few years ago.
