WAUWATOSA -- Residents and business owners in downtown Wauwatosa have something to look forward to this holiday season as the city's major streetscaping improvement project finally nears the end.

"I'm jubilant, that's the first word that comes to my mind. It's wonderful," Deb Fowler said.

Fowler is the owner of The Flower Lady flower shop, a business that's been in the area for more than 20 years.

"[The construction has] really slowed things down," Fowler said. "No one could get into the village, the roads were all shut down."

However, despite the frustration of business owners, residents remain optimistic.

"We're excited about the fact [that] after all the things that have been going on we can finally park around here and take advantage of all the renovations in this area," Bill Smith said.

The project started back in May and construction is scheduled to end this month. A few streetscaping finishing touches include pavers being installed in the sidewalk and patio areas.

During the remainder of November, work behind the curb on lights, trees, benches, and new water feature at Harwood and State Street will also be installed.
