MILWAUKEE — A CNN show puts Milwaukee in the national spotlight.
Sunday night's episode of "United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell" focused on race relations in Milwaukee, specifically being black in the city.
The hour-long episode tackled how racism has shaped the city over the years.
Bell says he selected Milwaukee because the city is regularly listed as one of America's most segregated cities. One report finds the city has the highest number of neighborhoods that are separated by race.
Historian Reggie Jackson shared the 2016 killing of 23-year-old Sylville Smith, which led to violence in the Sherman Park neighborhood. Officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown was acquitted of homicide charges in the case.
