MILWAUKEE — The City of Milwaukee has named its interim commissioner of health.

Marlaina Jackson will serve as the city's next health commissioner, effective Sept. 23. Jackson will serve in that position until the next commissioner is nominated by Mayor Tom Barrett and confirmed by the Common Council.

Jackson has worked for Aurora Family Services, Froedtert Hospital and most recently in the City of Milwaukee Health Department.

Most recently, Jackson served as the Deputy Commissioner of Community Health.

Previous Health Commissioner Jeanette Kowalik submitted her resignation to the mayor in early September, taking a new position in Washington D.C.
