A Milwaukee man is charged in the shooting death of Dylan Steffen, a popular bartender who was killed in an attempted armed robbery two weeks ago.
Jermichael Carroll was charged with first-degree reckless homicide and attempted armed robbery.
According to Milwaukee County Court documents, Carroll allegedly tried to rob Steffen and his friend around 1 a.m. on May 31. Carroll put Steffen in a headlock, but he broke free and ran away. Carroll then reportedly shot Steffen in the back. He later died from the gunshot at the hospital.
The friend gave police a description of the suspect and later identified Carroll in a lineup about a week later.
Dylan was an active member of the local LGBT community, and was a bartender at This Is It on Milwaukee's Cathedral Square.
Carroll, 29, faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted.
