Cathedral Square rainbow crosswalks to be painted Saturday

Posted

MILWAUKEE -- Cathedral Square in downtown Milwaukee will be getting more colorful on Saturday as Mayor Tom Barrett and the Department of Public Works will be painting the crosswalks to look like a rainbow.

In a response to local LGBTQ leaders in Milwaukee, the rainbow crosswalks will be installed to represent and commemorate the groups' first pride march in 1989. This historic march ended in Cathedral Square at the intersection of North Jefferson and East Wells Streets, the spot where the crosswalks will be painted.

The This Is It! tavern located on East Wells Street will also be celebrating their 50-year anniversary, putting the bar in the top-10 longest-operating LGBTQ bars in the nation.

The painting of the crosswalks will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 3.
